FEFCO 0201 RSC vs 0202 OSC: side-by-side numbers
0201 (Regular slotted container) and 0202 (Overlap slotted container) differ in how the box closes and how much board it takes. An overlap slotted container is an RSC whose flaps are cut longer than half the width, so the outer flaps overlap in the middle instead of just meeting.
Flap rules
| Part | 0201 RSC | 0202 OSC |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Outer flaps, top and bottom: W ÷ 2 | All flaps: (W ÷ 2) + overlap ÷ 2 |
| 2 | Inner flaps, top and bottom: W ÷ 2 | Overlap at center: set by the buyer, less than W |
| 3 | Manufacturer's joint: glue tab, about 1¼ in | |
| Closure | Tape along the center seam, glue the outer flaps to the inner flaps, or staple. A fill-in pad between the inner flaps gives a flat floor when the product needs one. | Staple or glue through the overlapping strip, or tape over it. The overlap is what makes stapling practical. |
Board use at three sizes
| Inside, in | 0201 blank, ft² | 0202 blank, ft² | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 × 10 × 8 | 5.66 | 5.97 | +6% |
| 18 × 8 × 8 | 5.92 | 6.29 | +6% |
| 24 × 18 × 12 | 17.76 | 18.35 | +3% |

Where each fits
0201 Regular slotted container
- Most cased goods that tolerate one center seam
- High-volume lines with automatic case erectors and sealers
- Buying from stock: almost all stock boxes are RSCs
0202 Overlap slotted container
- Closures that are stapled or glued through two layers
- Boxes that need a little more board across the center than an RSC
